In the soon to be nine years that I have lived in Co. Clare, Ireland, I haven’t seen a red squirrel. Now I am so lucky to have this little one visiting every day. I am told it’s an extremely rare sight in the Burren.
On the wintry day of Storm Darcy, it too felt the cold and lined up with all the birds and trying its luck with the peanut feeder. I’m amazed how fast a red squirrel moves. This was a rare moment of still, nevertheless I so far haven’t quite managed to be ready for the brief window of time to get it in focus before it moves again. Or to get close enough. However, cuteness overload isn’t missed regardless. It is a daily sign that makes the heart jump with joy, even on days where it feels covered in clouds.
