Dragon of the Sea

The Sea Dragon

Dragon of the sea
veiled in deep mystery
once again you arise
from the abyss of life
traveling on ancient mists
bringing your challenging gifts
and intense life-changing shifts
I welcome you my fierce friend
touched by your presence again

In another life
during shifting tides
I saw a red flicker
in the corner of my eye
you, a dragon
high up in the sky

Under the crescent moon
I was lead by you
through mythical woods
of fast-changing moods
entering a dark cave
speed like a tidal wave
spiraling through the earth
an explosion; a volcano’s birth
Reaching its core
my body aching and sore
it’s hard to believe
what was revealed to me
a piece of the unknown
sitting on its crystal throne
I knew I was about to die
the frequency too high
energy so strong
it wouldn’t take long
before my old life was gone

Some moments
run too deep
the impact too strong
to find words that to them belong
Perhaps some things
are better left untold
allowing the mystery to unfold
It dwells deep inside
where sacred love
and innocence abides
like a magic flame
relieving pain
burning away any chain

For years I wished to find the words to write about a thoroughly unlikely moment humans are not supposed to experience, I nevertheless did. Life was never the same after this and it send me víking for several years raiding only for deeper understanding until the day I realized, it can’t be understood nor known… When I looked through my photos from the January storm here on the wild West, the quality somewhat poor, I thought, maybe I can still turn it into something. I looked closer and started seeing images in the sea-spray… and with that came the words after being 7 years on their way.

And then synchronicity strikes and enhances further the call for the words. No one else than Merlin can do this 😉 Let me introduce you to “Merlin Awakes!” by C. P. Singleton a great piece of writing about this timeless myth.

In the timeless everything is on time…

  1. I love the way everything arrives just on time.
My walk into the Pentland Hills on Monday was a coming together of lots of long chased threads for me 🙂

  2. Wow – what an amazing water image – I can definitely see the dragon rearing up and spreading its wings! I started reading Singleton’s first 8 chapters but it looks like a long read thru a lot more chapters…maybe you can let your experience form itself into words and share at some point? And I agree with you: S’s female characters are pretty extreme – either evil or too wimpy! 🙂

    • Thanks, I had quite the same reaction when I saw it 🙂
And to your request, if you mean my own experience, maybe I can, time will show… this is as close I have ever got…
Oh, yes those female characters are less impressive, particularly the wimpy ones (great word) lol!! You should tell him that 😀 !

      • That’s why I think you could do a great job relating the female experience (it is so much harder for guys to do that for us and vice versa). I, too, have a difficult-to-verbalize connection to the Vikings (beyond dressing up as a Valkyrie for Halloween 🙂 ). As if there’s something in our ancestral memory trying to break through….

        • 🙂 Have you ever read The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley? You might like it, it’s from the perspective of the female characters, without being ‘wimpy’ nor undermining the masculine. Perhaps words will come to you, if you have a wish to verbalize your connection to the vikings…. would be interesting to read what’s trying to break through!

    • Oh and you does not in any way sound peevish, it’s a really good comment. And I wish I could give you a really good reply. So, there is Morgana; evil, the mother; full of fear that seems greater than the love of her son. Then there was the magic woman, kind of equal to Merlin I think, only that she had fallen in love and lost herself to it… there is the girl in the tent where Merlin gives ‘magician’-show, she faints. (that’s where my comment came from originally on your post. So, maybe my memory is deceiving me, but first woman to have power without being evil is the Sauls nurse? However, I think the most important thing I can say in all this is actually, your Merlin Awakes is so incredible and seems to almost have a life of its own that shouldn’t be disturbed by forcing any gender-specific characters into it and thereby interrupt your flow, it would be felt, and it might loose some of its magic, because in my humble view, your story truly touches something magical that is beyond gender. So don’t forcibly create a female character that doesn’t kind of naturally ‘awakes” within the story on her own accord. Does this make sense?

And then again, in another perspective, my sense is that there is something stirring in the deep sub-conscious of men and women and how we perceive and relate to one another. What it means to be a woman and to be a man seems to thrown up in the air and still and perhaps never will land, which is a great thing, not to box it in. Have you heard about the Bechdel test?

To make a long comment longer, I wouldn’t be able to say, “you should… whatever” because I don’t know. I’m from viking country and I overheard a man from there saying to an woman from another culture; “the problem with Danish women is, they don’t need us anymore…” now that’s kind of in the other extreme, isn’t it?! lol! Anyway, if questions arises, fire away.

p.s.I don’t know if you would find anything of interest in reading “Mists of Avalon” re female characters…

      • We are alien to ourselves too… lol!!! I do think there is truth to the fact that we don’t need men, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t want to be with a man, on the contrary. I think the statistics you are talking about is perhaps men and women equally pulling away from an outdated way to be together and are ready to explore and create completely new ways, where neither ‘looses’ themselves to one another but together creates a ‘third space´’ to share equally while both being true to themselves and their inner calling. A way where the agenda is “Love and Let Be” instead of a known scenario of a woman frustrated tells her husband; ” you are not the same person I married 10 years ago” whereto he replies; “no, because you’ve spend 10 years changing me!” So, yes we might not need each other but we all have so so much to learn by perhaps beginning to listen deeper and profoundly respecting each other for who we are the mystery that we all are and not what gender we are. We are all in it together. What’s thankfully tumbling down is old perceptions clearing the way, giving the opportunity to look upon each other with fresh eyes… is my sense of it all. 🙂
